Premium quality alpaca
Peruvian alpacas are raised in the wild, high up in the Andes Mountains. These animals are bred first and foremost for their exquisite fiber, which is sheared only once a year.
Our partners in Peru carefully select only the finest fibers to offer you knits that are incredibly soft and silky to the touch.

Natural wonder
Nature does things beautifully, offering us 22 natural shades of alpaca fiber. Our knitters take pride in showcasing these rich, undyed colors just as they are.
Too often, the textile industry turns to dyeing in search of perfectly uniform tones. At PachaMama, we keep our alpaca knits natural and dye-free. It’s an eco-conscious choice that also honors the traditional methods of our artisans.
Spindle spinning
This ancient predecessor of the spinning wheel is an iconic tool of the Andes. Whether walking or riding the bus, artisans keep the spindle whirling while delicately drawing out the fiber with their fingertips!
The spindle also reflects a way of life where herders are constantly on the move with their animals. As the alpacas graze, the alpaquero pulls out their spindle, already thinking of their next knit!
Needle knitting
The expert hands of our knitters have truly mastered the art of knitting. As skilled as they are creative, these women craft intricate stitches and patterns intuitively, without ever using a pattern.
Cultural heritage
The Indigenous women of the Arte-Aymara Association work with alpaca fiber following the customs and traditions passed down by their ancestors. Their communities maintain a unique way of life in the heart of the Andes. As this cultural heritage faces the risk of disappearing, PachaMama is committed to helping protect and preserve it.
Socially responsible
Since our beginnings in 2004, we’ve built strong, long-term relationships with our artisan groups.
We support them in their efforts toward economic, social, and organizational development, working together to improve their living conditions in a lasting and meaningful way.
