Unique expertise
This collection of high-end products is proudly crafted by Leonarda and her daughter Noemi. Exceptionally talented artisans, their creativity speaks for itself. Even after 20 years of working together, they continue to surprise us with unique designs and an extraordinary attention to detail.
Spindle spinning
Like all our knits, Leonarda’s creations are made with hand-spun alpaca yarn using a traditional spindle. This ancient predecessor of the spinning wheel is an iconic tool of the Andes. Whether walking or riding the bus, artisans keep the spindle whirling while delicately drawing out the fiber with their fingertips!
The spindle also reflects a way of life where herders are constantly on the move with their animals. As the alpacas graze, the alpaquero pulls out their spindle, already thinking of their next knit!
Needle knitting
The expert hands of Leonarda have mastered the art of knitting. As skilled as she is creative, she has become a true knitting master, and it was she who passed on her knowledge to her daughter Noemi. Together, mother and daughter knit intricate stitches and patterns intuitively, without ever using a pattern.
Natural wonder
Nature does things beautifully, offering us 22 natural shades of alpaca fiber. Our knitters take pride in showcasing these rich, undyed colors just as they are.
Too often, the textile industry turns to dyeing in search of perfectly uniform tones. At PachaMama, we keep our alpaca knits natural and dye-free. It’s an eco-conscious choice that also honors the traditional methods of our artisans.
Premium quality alpaca
Peruvian alpacas are raised in the wild, high up in the Andes Mountains. These animals are bred first and foremost for their exquisite fiber, which is sheared only once a year.
Our partners in Peru carefully select only the finest fibers to offer you knits that are incredibly soft and silky to the touch.
